J's Story

Riseup Ministries is so aptly named! I first became involved in late 2007 when I was referred to their weekly support group for women who have or are experiencing domestic abuse. Having recently left a very abusive relationship, I was full of shame and guilt. I had escaped the environment, but did not have an understanding of the impact on myself, and my children. I did not understand the underlying issues that cause these situations. As well as providing support, compassion and encouragement, and a safe place to share my experiences, Riseup Ministries has educated me on the many faces and facets of domestic violence. It has provided me with tools, training and skills to cope with the long term effects of abuse, and helped me to deal with my abuser, as the father of my children, while continuing on the journey of healing that I must seek to become a happy and whole individual. Riseup Ministries really has been a Godsend for me. As I grow in my faith and my new belief in myself, I have hope that others will also be brought to Riseup - to begin to experience what they have to offer.
